So far I've done 9000 miles and have around 5mm tread left.

Btw, you can get a tyre tread depth key ring on ebay for less than £2. Its a wonderful gadget!

I had 5-6 mm tread depth left on the Continental Eco Contact 3 fitted to my car after 17580 miles. I thought they were good for a few more thousand until the tyre fitter advised me they needed replacing after 10 years because they were cracked around the sidewalls.

I only went in for a suspected slow puncture ah well you wouldn't keep a Smartphone for 10 years.

When I PX'd my C1 it still had two of the original Michelin tyres on it at 37k miles. A few years ago I had a Renault 5 which I owned from new. It still had the original rear tyres on it when I sold it 10 years and 95,000 miles later. As nlel mentioned, ageing rather than tread wear can be the more significant factor with these cars...

From memory I used to get 20-22k from a pair of fronts; a bit under double that from the rears.

I've done 1125 miles on my new Chinese tyres and have 7mm tread depth left on the front and above 7mm on the rear it's not easy to get a 100% accurate reading with the tread depth gauge I have.

The front ones are Sailun Atrezzo Eco which started out life with 7mm and the rears are Jinyu Gallopro YH18 which started out life with 7.8mm

Was double checking the brand new tread depths of my tyres and the Sailun Atrezzo Eco fitted to the front in size 145/65/15 only has 7mm from new when all the other available sizes have 7.4mm.

I thought this may be a typographical error but it says it here...

http://sailuntyre.eu/PLT/ECO.html

and in this .pdf here...

http://www.sailuntyre.eu/catalogs/ECO.pdf

In which case I have hardly lost any tread depth over the course of 1125 miles which I guess is not surprising as that's not really a lot of mileage.

Can you send me the link for the tyre tread depth keyring? I've bought a tread depth gauge from Halfords and it's rubbish. Thanks.

Probably best to email him as he hasn't logged in since Mon May 07, 2018 @ 7:09 pm. Is the one you got from Halfords like this one?

http://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/garage-equipment/breakdown-essentials/halfords-essentials-analogue-tread-depth-gauge

If it is, its similar to mine, its fine for checking that you have more than 3mm tread depth but I'd prefer a digital one which would be easier to read with greater accuracy. I also prefer a digital tyre pressure gauge one of which I have.

Only bought the Analogue Tread Depth Gauge because it was cheap and I didn't think I would use it much, mine was a Silverline 380151 Tyre Tread Gauge and it cost £ 1.49 free post from eBay.

Cheapest place to buy one now is on the Amazon Marketplace for £ 1.48 free delivery...

Update

20500 miles

3.5mm left on front
5mm left on back

Conti eco contact 3 or 5, will buy them again as they are almost 4 years old and no damage/mould/
