Hi all,

I've noticed rust on the edge of the bonnet it is where the headlamp guards clip onto the headlamp. I'm guessing it's where the guards have been rubbing away at the paint. Rust is worse on passenger side as the lamp is a different make to the original fit Valeo on drivers side and the guard is a slightly looser fit. I was thinking of bonnet respray at a body shop but I think it'd be expensive as they'd have to prep and respray etc. Then I thought about rubbing rust spots down to clean metal & applying touch up paint. My car is a 2005 Peugeot 107 3 door on a 55 plate. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Ben.

How long are you going to keep the car? How long has it take to get like this? Getting the bonnet resprayed is pointless as the guards will just do the same again. Locally rub it down and use a touch in brush. To respray is probably going to cost more than the car is worth.

as above treat and touch up , you can build it up a thin layer at a time so it drys quicker if its too thick you will have to leave the bonnet open for longer
wifes bonnet had alot of stone chips down to the undercoat i dabbed in a tiny amount of paint over 5 weeks just a touch each week left it for another 4 weeks then wet/dry light sanding then cutting /rubbing compound and now you cant see the ones i have done at all still have around 4 to finish but that can wait untill the weather gets better now

The car is 12 years old, I've only just noticed the rust & I've had the guards on for the past 9 years. I also thought it's pointless to get a respray done because of the costs involved. I've got kurust to use but I might just rub it down & use my touchup paint stick. I was going to keep the car for as long as I can until it gets too old to be worth repairing any issues because of the cost being more than the car is worth.

Thanks for your replies one and all.

That's what I'd do too. Pick off / rub down the loose bits of rust, dab on some kurust then touch up once the kurust has done its thing.
