Hi, just bought a 2009 107 for my son. Great little car, 60k on the clock and all original. However as I've read elsewhere with other cars on here, there is excessive play/free movement in the gearstick.

For example when moving from 2nd to 3rd, the gearstick does not 'spring' (move on its own) from left to right across the box to allow easy selection of 3rd. Put another way I'm expecting the natural resting position to be in line with 3rd/4th gears with resistance when going to left to select 1st/2nd or to the right when selecting 5th. I'm trying to guide the gearstick around the box, letting it do the work.

Hopefully this makes sense, but is there a spring or cable etc that needs tightening/replacing to eliminate the looseness?

It will feel a little slack, but it should naturally rest between 3/4 if not I would suggest checking the linkages and the springs on the selector.

If you are able to select all gears okay then you can eliminate gear cables
