hii, ive just had my c1 over 8 months now, it had 13,000 miles on it when i bought it. its now got 23,000 on it. its last service was 3000 miles ago. and out of the blue the clutch pedal feels really juddery and vibrates when i press down on it. so i took it to my local garage just to make sure it wasnt the clutch going and they said it was perfectly fine.
now the problems got worse, its difficult to engage 1st gear from a stand still and its hard to get it into 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th on the move. and some times it creeps forward when i slow down for traffic lights even when my clutch is fully down and it makes a strange noise on tick overrr when in gear :\! to make it worse when i engage reverse, with my clutch all the way down it makes the most horrible noise :(!

can someone please helpppp, and tell me what it might be?

Mine is heading that way at 16000 miles.

I'm going to investigate adjustment over the next few days.

It could be several things - firstly - clutch cable failing , or the release lever , or release bearing

the clutch plate could be separating or the cover faulty , or even loose gearbox mounting bolts

I don't think it's the gearbox - but maybe the selector cable's coming loose ???

firstly get someone to press down on the clutch pedal , and check for full movement on the lever end

adjust the clutch cable tighter and see if there is a difference , ie easier gear selection and less noise

if you are getting full movement , and no difference with the cable adjusted then it's probably new clutch assy time

can anyone think of anything else ???

does it make a noise in neutral when depressing the clutch pedal ??? if yes then probably clutch release brg , if not clutch cable adjustment would be the first thing to look at

hope this helps

thanks i'll try that :)
ermm its hard to explain :\ but i'll give it a go ha..
i just popped outside and it doesnt make a noise in neutral as such,
but when i move the gear stick near the all of the gears(1,2,3,4,5,R) postion it makes a fast paced ticking noise, is that what you mean?

Firstly remove any floor mats that could stop the pedals travel (although the mats shouldn't go up that far)

with engine running , depress the clutch pedal , does the noise get louder ??? ... if yes probably clutch release bearing

if no ...
with foot still on pedal ...
attempt to select first gear , can you feel resistance in the gear lever ?,
and hear the gear cluster rotating ?,
then with a bit more force the lever will jump forward and you will engage 1st gear ??? ,
if yes tighten the clutch cable ,

you should find the gears easier to select

I have always found when a clutch cable stretches , it has a weakness , and will be prone to fail in the long term

if no then it's something more major - sadly - possibly a fault with the center plate dragging - so clutch isn't fully dis-engaging

as a kill or cure , you could try slipping the clutch a bit - it may stop the dragging - don't do it too much - as you may scorch the flywheel surface

all the above at your own risk -

rightttttt, ive finally found out whats up with my poor c1.
i took it to my local citroen dealer yesterday afternoon, and they have just rang me back this morning and said that the gearbox is fine, but the problem is that the clutch plate rivets have sheared off :S they said its very unusual for that to happen, and they are ringing citroen uk and seeing if its on the warrenty or not, lets hope it is

It's happened a fair amount, they'll probably say they've never heard of it, but it's occured numerous times.

I have had to have new clutches at 22,000 (replaced under warranty), 47,000, and 69,000 miles. I have now fitted a clutch from the Toyota Yaris, a much heavier duty clutch, and it has seemed to have worked, car has now done 21,000 miles on this clutch without needing adjustment.
