I have not searched Google or anywhere for information on this, just thought that l would throw it open here.
When we work on our cars, we are always being advised to disconnect the earth lead, just wondered why not the red lead ?
Any know?

If you disconnect the positive terminal and then accidentally bridge the connection (with a wrench or spanner or whatever) you'll get a nice face full of sparks because there is no load. Whereas if you disconnect the negative terminal and then bridge that connection, all you're doing is completing the already loaded circuit. So, a lot less sparks!
