All my jeans are like those l have skinny legs. Did bin them after though, man's got to have his pride after all.We needed his car for work the next week, otherwise it meant using mine again. Think of the cost in Petrol at 25p gallon or whatever.

As a young boy I can remember my uncle buying 4 gallons of petrol and a chocolate bar for me all for less than £1 8-)

Absolutely nothing to do with cars, but you mentioned chocolate. Billy Connolly the chocolate that bites back or something similar. I sometimes see it for sale in the shops here not often though. The English Shop
in Köln no longer has it on their website. Buying them as a boy in London on a cold day, they were not easy to break to into single mountains. But you kept coming back for another one, great they are.

Mk1 Escort - my favourite one. The triumvirate of the Mk1 Escort, Mk1 Capri and Mk3 Cortina truly capture a time where I loved the Ford range. I know that they all had their flaws but, man, they were amazing cars in many ways. Loved my Mk1 Capri (Daytona yellow with black vinyl roof).

As for petrol prices, I can only remember as a passenger the times of 25p a gallon and my dad's reaction when that all started to change (around the time those cars were still in their heyday I think). However, I do remember very clearly how petrol companies put the price per gallon up to just shy of £1 immediately prior to a budget so the chancellor became the bad guy for taking it above the £1 psychological barrier and then a week or two later they painted themselves as the good guys for reducing the price of fuel so that it fell below £1 again.

Ha - I've long joked about German built cars having a "You don't need to touch anything here dumpkoff!" message in the engine bay and a credit card symbol on the dash display when a service is required. I frequently compare my C1 to the original Mini - mechanically basic, easy(ish) to work on (C1 definitely easier) and great fun to drive. I did the North Coast 500 in mine in Feb this year and it's all about getting the line right and not slowing down (Stirling Moss would approve) :-)

That's what I really enjoy about driving my C1 on quiet roads, you re-learn how to maintain momentum by being in the right gear and taking the right line. IMHO that's just as skilful as diving a powerful car without crashing! My wife could never understand why I enjoyed driving my C1 as much as my (now gone) Audi RS4.
