My 07 C1 has black stripes over the bonnet and roof. I presumed it was a factory or dealer accessory because they're so well fitted. My insurance company has classed them as aftermarket.

Anyone know if this was a official accessory at the time and does anyone have any proof like a brochure or price list.

Cheers

I'm not sure but I think that there were some official decals provided by Citroen that might be like the ones you describe. A bouble off-centre stripe over the bonnet and roof I think. (But I'm not familiar with the full range of options.)

This could be what I was thinking about:

Is that anything like what yours look like?

If yours are well fitted it could either be by a talented amateur or by a company that specialises in vinyls and wrapping. I have managed to put decals on to cars before and get them looking pretty good and I have also had decals/stripes fitted by a specialist (e.g. on my C1).

I'm actually intrigued that your insurance company even cares. What did they say about them? The closest I have ever come to an insurance company caring about something like that was when one told me that the insurance only covers repairing the car to original spec and any non-standard items such as third party decals, spoilers etc would not be covered and would have to be replaced at my cost (but otherwise did not affect the insurance). i.e. they didn't really care, but just made it clear that their policy wouldn't cover replacing the stripes in the event that a replacement was needed for some reason.

If that is the case, let's be honest, anything but a very cheap repair is going to be enough to write off an 11 year old C1 as far as an insurance company is concerned anyway.

Thanks for the reply!

I'm a new driver so I'd imagine any excuse for insurance companies to mitigate their risk. It was the guy who came to fit the black box that flagged it up and refused to fit it.

The more I think about it the more I think it's not factory fitted.

I've enclosed an image. not very good for showing the stripes but all I had.

Any tips for removing them? Looks as if it will leave a difference in paint fade.

Cheers

That black-box fitter sounds like a bit of a "jobs worth". :?

I have seen a few with stripes a bit like that, but most have been Peugeot 107s rather than C1s. Sorry, I don't know if they were an official item or not. It still seems silly to refuse to fit a black box on the basis of them though, especially as you didn't fit them.

Removing is reasonably straight forward. You need to heat them up with a hair dryer (or if you are very careful, a heat gun) preferably on a warm day (to make it easier). Basically, the heat softens the adhesive and they should just pull off. If they've been on for a while, they may have deteriorated a bit and come off in pieces rather than one big bit.

Paint fade may be an issue. It seems to affect red cars more than other colours. Also, red cars, more than others, seem to suffer from the clear-coat lacquer on top of the colour separating and coming off. This shouldn't be a huge risk but with older paint and stripes that have been on a long time, the risk is increased.

If he’s come to fit a black box thing, what’s the stripes got to with anything.
Jobs worth reckon your right there. Funny how some people are.

You would think he would be as concerned about the wheeltrims then. They are aftermarket ones not genuine Citroen! The gut is an ass!
