I also found this dictionary example. Now, are they talking about how beautiful she is? Or generally about her body, for example, her legs, arms, breasts. In fact, maybe she is ugly for them and they are talking about her crooked legs, huge nose etc. Right? In other words, 'looks' doesn't refer to beauty only.

Could you stop talking about her looks?

If they were talking about her general style, including clothes, the example would use ‘look’, right?

I stick by what I say that 'looks' is used when referring to body (all aspects - face, arms, legs, breasts, hair, feet...) and 'look' when referring to fashion and style (clothes, makeup, shoes, handbag, ...)

If I was a witness to some crime and was being questioned, would I be asked to describe the look or looks of the criminal? Or would the cop use either word depending on what they wanted to get from me?

A: Do you remember his look/looks?
B: Oh, sorry. It was too dark.

When I've been in that situation the policeman asked me "Can you describe his appearance?".

Look/looks is too vague because they want to know both his look (clothes, shoes, etc.) and looks (hair, face, build, etc.).

Do these all work?

1. I had to queue for two hours to get into the post office.
2. I had to queue up for two hours to get into the post office.
3. I had to stand in a queue for two hours to get into the post office.
4. Excuse me, are you standing in the queue?
5. Excuse me, is this the end of the queue?
6. Excuse me, where is the end of the queue?

3 & 4 are a bit long winded IMHO.

I wouldn't use 3, I would use 2 instead.

As an alternative to 4 I would say "Excuse me, are you in the queue?"

There is one thing that bothers me about the Do you mind...? question. Shouldn't we use a negation while replying if we don't mind something? And I came across these conversations:

A: Do you mind If I take a look around?
B: Yeah, of course. Great.

TV Guest: Do you mind if I go back to that question?
TV Host: Yes, please.

So what replies would work better? Or do you find them natural.

I'm with you, IMHO by replying yeah or yes they're saying that they DO mind :!:

To the first I would reply "Please go ahead" or similar.

To the second I would reply "That's fine by me" or similar.
