Was checking my tyre pressures earlier when I pulled off the tyre inflators hose a bit to roughly and now its leaking air from the valve. Probably just needs to be tightened but I don't have a tool to do so.

So I've got a mobile tyre fitting person coming tomorrow as I need this sorted asap. In the meantime I have ordered one of these in case it happens again...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007OX3TYK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I had 98p credit on my VISA anyway so something decent to spend it on.

Sometimes tyre checking can be a pain. You sure that item didn’t come with the inflator??

By the way, l got one if you wish to borrow it. You could also ask a neighbour to pick one up for you.

Well I've cancelled the mobile tyre fitting person and will wait for this valve core tool to arrive. Should be here in about a week so won't drive my car until then.

Air doesn't seem to be escaping with the dust cap on but I'm not going to risk driving it, at least if it doesn't fix it then I have peace of mind that I haven't spent money unnecessarily.

I should imagine they charge a fair bit to come out and fix it.

It was late when l posted, but giving it more thought it’s possible that you need a new valve.
I guess your cars don’t have a spare wheel or you would have fitted it?

Yes no spare wheel, its possible that I need a new valve but I'll try to tighten it first and if that doesn't work I'll get the tyre shop to sort it out.

The valve core removal tool only cost £ 1.32 and I had 98p credit on my card that I didn't know what to do with. The only issue I can see is that I don't want my car sitting around for too long but it should be ok for 2-3 weeks while I sort this out.

Hi recommend you keep an eye it, it’s under cover so no problem there.
Last thing you need is, in my mind is the tyre to suddenly go flat and sit for a while that could damage it.

Just a thought didn’t you have a relative there at one time, that could help??

Yeah I've been down to the car a few times since it happened on Thursday to check the tyre hasn't gone flat. The dust cap seems to be keeping the air in otherwise it would have been flat by now.

I have a brother who can help and was going to ask him if he has a valve core removal tool that I can borrow but haven't as yet.

Good idea that, the only issue I can see is that it may be tricky to undo or tighten a valve core with those because there isn't much of a handle to hold onto but saying that its probably not a problem.

At least with my dedicated valve core removal tool there's a fairly long handle to hold onto. I like my set of four Smart branded metal dust caps anyway.

Recieved the valve core removal tool in the post this afternoon. I just went down to the car and tightened up the valve core until the air was no longer escaping then pumped the tyre back up to 29 PSI.

It's a good job I hadn't driven on it as it must have been down to at least 27 PSI, I measured it at 25.5 PSI but that was after a bit more had leaked out.

So in essence, a success and I now have a tool if it happens again. I won't be so rough from now on.
