Honestly, that photo wasn't a lie, yep a 1989 Ford Fiesta Mk3 Popular Plus, it did have some rust on rear arches, but all old Fords do!, it had 54k miles, it did help that it was garaged for last 20 years. Also, it was used every week, but not daily as my sister uses the Bus for work as alot easier/cheaper than using a car.

Agree with upgrading for newer technology!, that's why I persuaded my sister to get a newer 108, but only for airbags, power steering, fuel injection, better braking!

After so long l have to agree, cars have improved leaps and bounds. But whoever bought that one spent some money on it got a real bargain.

If only, as I found out not all old Fords are worth £000s, ok it was nice to see it stay on the road and not visit the scrapper, as if we had traded it in that's all we would of got and the car deserved more than that. I was hoping it would be worth more as my Mum had a Ford Escort Mk2 before her 107, and we sold that for a good few quid, I was shocked what we got for that, but it just shows you need to have 'right' desirable model.

Talking of improvements and time, my sister paid about £6500 for her Fiesta back in 1989, and we paid about that for our 107 back in 2008!, but the amount of extra kit the 107 has over that, airbags, CD player, power steering, abs, etc., it was quite surprising.

I still have my first car which is the C1 and now coming up for 8 years of ownership

The car that I have owned the longest was my Mk1 Capri. As a student I got it from a friend in 1984 (after working all summer specifically to be able to afford it). My friend's uncle had bought it new in 1973. He had owned and looked after it for about 9 years. Then my friend's dad got it, restored what needed to be restored and gave it to my friend. In 1984 any car over 8 years old was likely to be a disaster, riddled with rust and probably a death trap. However, this one had been well looked after and I knew its full history, so the purchase was safe.

I'm not sure exactly when I got rid of it (mid to late 2000s sometime), but I owned it for over 20 years and used it as a daily driver for much of that time. By the end, however, it had become impractical to run it every day but I didn't have a suitable place to house it either. After much soul-searching I let it go to someone who wanted a project. These days, Mk1 Capris, especially the late-run facelift models like mine, seem to be very rare. You hardly ever see them at classic shows and they can fetch a pretty good price too. Should I have kept mine? Every fibre of my being says yes but the reality was that I simply couldn't at the time.



Really miss that car.

The car I owned most is my current une, 2010 skoda superb that I bought new.
The oldest car I had was my father's 1981 moskwich. It became mine in 1999 when he bought a new piece of s..t and I kept it running till 2004 when I gave it for free. I was living abroad and became obvious i wouldn't use it anymore.

Five years 8 months with the 107, no general plans to replace it yet. First car, been through a lot with it and whilst I don't drive nearly as much as I used to, still holding on to it.

107 '09 Urban

We've had our (strictly speaking it's my partners) 107 5dr Urban since late 2009. We got it at 2 years and 20,000 miles. It's now almost on 82,000 and has served us well.

I'm not sure she will ever part with it. Although we have recently both driven a new model C1 (i borrwed it from work) and were very impressed with it.

Still planning on selling mine in around June 2020. I've had to replace all four tyres a year ago and both the rear shock absorbers a couple of months back. I want to get my monies worth out of them.

Picked up a little scuff recently too which is not worth £ 175 to fix. It's 10.5 years old now and only worth a couple of grand. I would not get any more for it without the scuff.

I'll give it its last minor service under my ownership in around April/May 2019 and sell in around June 2020. Still undecided whether I should buy a brand new car or another used one, probably go used as I'd be scared of driving a new one in case I scratch it.
