I have decided to keep mine until either its wheels fall apart, or a worthy hybrid or electric car hits the market. I'm not interesting in buying a new car to get more LEDs and electronic gadgets.

My Smart cost me £ 5000 when it was 7.5 years old with 15280 miles. In June 2020 when the latest model of Smart Fortwo the C453 is 6 years old I hope to buy a used low mileage one for around £ 6000 to £ 7000.

Hope to get at least £ 1500 for my current Smart which will have about 21000 miles on it by then which means £ 4500 to £ 5500 for the new car after selling my old one.

I do want the latest electronic gizmos etc that comes with a newer car and I feel 5 years ownership of a used car is long enough. Of course it all depends what's available at the time and where from a 2 to 3 year old car will cost considerably more.

For example there's a used 2016 Smart Fortwo C453 automatic with 6500 miles for sale at £ 8995 at the moment from a dealer here in Jersey, the main dealer tend to want £ 9995 for similar.

I'd be ideally looking at something from 2014 to 2015 to fit within my budget and I hope there are more available in June 2020 when I'm in the market.

I bought my C1 in 2009 as a 1 year old (the previous owner needed to have the latest number plate...) so I've now owned it for over 9 years and have no plans to change it as it's only done 45000 miles and is still 100% reliable and cheap to maintain - apart from regular servicing costs I've only had to have the clutch replaced.

Wise words mate, :D , ok we got a newer 108 in the family last year nice car and big improvement on the 107, but I still intend on keeping our 107, cos still a cheap car to run and actually a more fun drive. The 108 has bit more tech unfortunately required by car law makers and car tech arms race, but it going cost more to fix if it goes wrong than our 107.
