Is there any hope of a software update that has Android auto?

I think the facelift 2018 ones have it from the factory.

Would be nice, but doubt it cos as you say manufacturer use it as incentive to sell new facelift version. Makes me think manufacturers deliberately hold back tech during vehicle life cycle so it can be drip fed later to sell newer versions.

Interestingly, think I read some Jaguar's don't have it either, so even high-end car manufacturers are at it.

I doubt it too.

I saw a video of the new unit in action in a Toyota Aygo review on YouTube and the unit seems like a different machine.

The whole User interface was slightly different and was so much smoother so my guess is that they have bumped up the internals.

We might see these units in the future for sale at breakers yards and ebay and would most likely be a plug n play swap but at a cost.
