Hi,
does anyone know if this should let you know if there are problem on your route. I thought that was the point of satnavs?

Mine never has any live traffic data like congestion, accidents, closures as per previous satnavs.

thanks
Richard

Do you have to pay to receive the live data option?

I can't find anything anywhere! I've spent as long googling and got nowhere!
I can't even find out what make the satnav is.
thanks
Richard

The basic point of a satnav is to get you from A to B and that is all that a no-frills one will do: plot a route and walk you through it.

Traffic awareness and plotting alternative routes to avoid traffic issues, roadworks, etc is a more advanced feature that not all satnavs will have. To do so, as well as the unit being capable of doing this task, it will also have to be subscribed to some sort of traffic update service. Some have to be paid for, some come inclusive with the price (if buying a third party unit).

I don't know if the one fitted to your car is meant to have traffic updates or not though.

My 8 year old qashqai does it!
The new C1 was £400 extra for a satnav - what a complete waste of money. Should have just bought a standalone. Can't even link to an iphone with the hugely advertised mirror technology unless its and iphone4!!! About 8% of the iphones in use at the moment are 4s.
Ridiculous for a new car.

Interesting. I just traded in a 2.5 year old Juke and it didn't. I'm guessing 8 years old makes it the Nissan Connect system? Mine was the Connect 2. I have to say that I wasn't desperately impressed with the Juke/Nissan Connect 2 system at all. I had a number of minor niggling problems with it and the map update schedule for the satnav was pitiful.

I've got a really nice stand-alone Gamin Nuvi with lifetime map updates and subscription to traffic info for the life of the unit that my wife bought me. If I need to use a satnav, I stick that on the dash.

I use Google maps on my phone, got a nice brodit pro clip holder and so sits nicely in the dash

I just went for an aftermarket kenwood unit with Garmin sat nav build in. Not a fan of having the mirror link or satnav via a phone. I just like the self contained unit

You need to turn on a setting called "Dynamic guidance" - it gets traffic info over the FM frequency. Invaluable IMHO.
cheers,
R
