That's a ridiculously high delivery charge.

Yeah I know, Smart in the UK only charge £ 275 inc VAT. The Smart dealer over here is a locally owned franchise hence why they differ from Smart UK. I’d hazard a guess that the salesman’s commission is part of that delivery charge.

I've worked it out and it's about £ 781 more overall than it should be if delivery charge was the same as Smart UK.

On top of the delivery charge there is VED, Fuel and first registration fee.

Excuse me James but someone did mention the high delivery charge, and he was simply explaining the breakdown for it. However on the subject of tyre pressures that is a different matter

I’ve seen this 2018 used one with 1500 miles on it, which is exactly the same as the one I’m getting for £ 14,995 in Guernsey.

In Jersey you have to add 5% GST so it would be £ 15,744.75. Mines going to be a brand new 2019 model with about 10 miles on it for £ 16,000.

Of course there is probably plenty of room for negotiation but the list price for that used one is only £ 255.25 less than my new one.

Yep sometimes new can be better than year old, when we got our 107 new back in 08, they had a 57 on forecourt, we interested in it, until they said it actually just been sold, but we waited and haggled a bit and got our new 107 cheaper than that 57's sticker price.

Yeah I guess one of the attractions of buying a used one is that you don't have to wait three to four months for delivery.

We got our new 107 within a couple of weeks, but assume ours was dealer allocated stock and boggo standard, but like a lot of new cars nowadays if you want specific options then you have to wait longer while they build it, so it horses for courses! One reasons we got very good deal, cos when dealer has to shift cars, then it easier to haggle.

They reckoned the car was originally £ 16,377 but to secure my business this month they offered it to me for £ 16000. I am always sceptical of these so called discounts.

At least it's a bit less than the UK OTR price of £ 16,955 and so it should be in Jersey. I looked on autotrader and 2018 models are going for about £ 13,950 which is a good £ 3000 off new price.

See here... https://tinyurl.com/yax9usg4

Main dealer here aren't offering much off new price for 2018 models but it is a locally owned franchise.

The dealer took a deposit of £ 1000 on my credit card the other day and yesterday I went in and paid the outstanding £ 15,000 in cash.

They weren’t keen on taking cash at first until I showed them bank transactions showing the cash withdrawals.

I just wanted it paid off, didn’t need finance and I’ve only got £ 1800 left in my bank account. They said I should expect delivery in March.

So you've paid 100% upfront?

That's very unusual in my experience, when I've purchased new cars the dealer only wanted the balance on collection.

What protection do you have against the dealer going bankrupt and you having no money and no car?
