I detest people like that, all nice to your face and talking about you behind your back.
Believe me she's not stupid, she got a great deal and she knows it. Just trying to squeeze the last drop out of you. I"m glad the brakes are kaputt, Hope it costs £2500 to repair that would make my day.
Let's see: Front 2 discs and pads, callipers both sides, Servo and Master cylinder thing.
Rears: Drums, shoes, and complete rebuild kit. All brake piping + Labour charges.
At Mercedes Prices. Price goes over estimate by £789.65p Total £3289.65p Shame
To shrewd to let that happen l bet.
Take care

It’s funny you should say that. I've searched google for the cost of replacing brakes and found this site...

https://www.whocanfixmycar.com/blog/much-brake-repairs-cost-across-uk/

The cheapest was £ 126.01 and the most expensive £ 278.93.

I wouldn’t call £ 278.93 a lot of money, £ 800 is a lot of money.

I knew it would not come to anything like my estimated price. It was just a wish. The car with your service history would never have all these faults. That's what makes it such a fantastic deal for her.
If you can put it down it a lesson learnt, and move on with your life.
By the way with my tyre pressure things, took them off and went back to the old method.
Just didn't feel comfortable after a while.
Take care Man BB

The latest is that she couldn’t get it into 2nd without restarting the car. I told them that I never used it in manual mode and so I never had the problem. Scouts honor.

They also wondered why a spanner sign came up on the dash so I informed them that it means it’s due a service. It’s nothing clever but there is a way of resetting it after a service then a year later a spanner will show up on the dash indicating it’s due a service.

Still moaning about the brakes but it’s more to do with the travel in the brake pedal than the actual braking. I never had an issue with it but told them to get them replaced if they want as it won’t cost that much.

EDIT: Now saying it happened in auto mode, that’s bullshit.

Hi l"m sure you didn't give her a warranty on the car? It's a private sale also, maybe a look in the service book or internet would bring the answers she needs, instead of ringing you up with her problems.
Must say I would love to have got my hands on this car. Tell her to join a Smart group for more information on the car SHE now OWNS she's just jealous you have a new model.

Well my thinking is that she’s not pressing the button on the gear stick to put it into auto which you have to do every time you start the car if you want to use it in auto mode. It’s a strange quirk of the 2007 to 2013 Smart car.

If you don’t press the button then it would be stuck in first gear as she’s reporting. I’ve also got her a quote of £ 151.19 for a set of new front brake discs and pads which includes labour.

Hope your not even going consider paying it for her, just for a quite life. My thinking is it would just start the Ball rolling. It's her car, her responsibility to get it sorted.
Leave it at that and forget it. Take Care BB

No I am not, like I told my brother it’s a used car with 19000 miles not new and brakes are a consumable item.

I guess they think for £ 1000 there must be something seriously wrong with it and suspect me of selling them a lemon. That’s not the case at all I wasn’t bothered about the money otherwise I would have asked £ 2000 for it but they’re family.

The problems they report is it not going to 2nd which can be put down to it not being in auto mode therefore it’s waiting for them to upshift manually which they didn’t because they thought it was already in auto.

The spanner sign on the dash which simply means it’s been 365 days since it was last reset and doesn’t necessarily mean it needs a service being it’s only done 1000 miles in that year.

Finally the brakes that’s a matter of opinion but I never had any problems with them but it’s up to them if they want them replaced it’s only going to cost £ 150 for discs and pads, or £ 90 just for pads.

It’s frustrating to me because I know there’s nothing seriously wrong with it and I feel I’m being made out to be the bad guy but I can understand their worries seeing as they don’t know the car that well.
