Here's my new car. I picked it up yesterday.

The sound system is the only bit of it I don't like, so here are a few pics of my upgrade work. First, I've fitted a bluetooth module. It just plugged into the OEM head and worked. Press FF on the radio to pickup / hangup.

It has a USB charger outlet, so I stuck a Qi charger under the little pocket above the radio. So it works through the plastic, I took it out of the box and taped the antenna to the fascia panel.

While I was at it, I put in some wiring for rear speakers. I split out the fronts and rears into two ISO connectors. For some reason, the speakers only work with the connector touching the head. As soon as you push it in, the sound dissapears. I'll have to look in to this a bit later.

The wires go behind the dash, trim panels and under the carpet.

And come out in the boot. I can fit some rear shelf speakers without having to disturb the rest of the car again.

My new front speakers are in the post. I'll see what they're like before deciding whether to fit rears.

I've been having problems with the bluetooth unit dropping out, so I've removed it. I need to rethink what I'm going to do with the head. I'd like to keep it OEM looking, but I do want bluetooth and USB. DAB if possible too.

Anyway, I've made a start on making a parcel shelf for my new speakers. It just about fits the space, so when my new taper cutting router bits arrive and I cut a slope on the front and rear edges, it should fit quite nicely.

So, single cone speakers. Not even dual cones. And made with cereal packet rather than paper. No wonder they sound so bad. Here's a pic of the new speakers in comparison. The orange magnet covers had to come off to get them to even nearly fit, and one of the tabs needed bending out of the way too. They do sound much better, as you'd expect, but 10cm speakers are never going to give much bass. The rears should help on that score.

A test fit of my new speaker shelf after a bit of adjustment. A little bit more fettling and it'll be ready to be covered.

Here it is, the finished product. The rear edge still needs a trim once the glue is fully dry. The rear bit is a bit wrinkled where the cloth comes out of the dished top, which is a bit disappointing. It sounds great though. It still lacks a bit at the very bottom end but for a system without a sub it's great.

You've made a nice job of that, looks factory. What size speakers did you fit 16"?, I fitted 13" as I used the original shelf so didn't want over load it.
