My instructor used to say that all the time, "wait till the wheels have turned" is exactly what she said.

Very, very good advice. An indicator (if used) can be taken as a "they're probably going to do [insert manoeuvre here]" but most definitely not as a "they're turning in, it's OK for me to pull out" as a lot of people do. Only move once you know what they are doing.

ade33 is right, you do develop a sort of sixth sense for what others are about to do (because their driving does alter subtly as they are about to carry out their manoeuvre and you can pick up on it) but I certainly still wait until I'm certain it is safe to do what I plan on doing.

We all make mistakes, of course, and I'm certainly not claiming to be a perfect driver (or anything close to that) but, yeah, "wait until the wheels have turned" is very sound advice.

Just a question though, how many people on this forum are actually car enthusiasts? I know some are as they have second cars like an MR2 while others aren't as they drive very few miles in a smart car... You known who you are.

I'm a car enthusiast, but I'm only 18 so don't have the funds for a second car

Definitely a car enthusiast here. Lots of my spare time is spent going around car shows/events looking at stuff and we have 6 cars sitting outside our house right now. We do have 4 drivers living in the house these days though - but that doesn't stop 4.5 of the cars being mine.
