Both open and close buttons have fallen off with constant use. I use a piece of wood to push the switches but is there a smart way of substituting something permanent.

Yes agreed they do work, just had to return one to Amazon because I forgot about the screw.
And ordered the wrong item. So my inners did not fit. Don't forget the CHIP or your car will not start.
Some people were reporting that the back didn't fit right, it's only the buttons that wear.
