Thanks for the replies guys.
After hours of comparison sites and 'phone calls, cheapest deal was £299 (Churchill) fully com. protected no claims (£261 without) guarenteed car hire with this 1 year offer.
I have well over 20 years NCB no convictions etc. but I do live in an urban! area of Manchester and park on street.
the scum who drive uninsured and the scum who claim for bogus injuries like whiplash etc. are driving the price up, including the insurance industry itself and as we are a captive market it seems there is little we can do about it

Did I Mention that the thriving sods took me for over £110 this year? I've never made a claim in nearly 26 years if driving, so all the money they've had out of me over the years is easy gravy.

Despite what they say, real risk is not a serious factor. You ability to pay because of your job, and your willingness to pay because we're told youngsters cost a fortune in claims etc is what they base their quotes on.

Some years ago I moved house, from one village to the next, under 2 miles and the buggers raised my premium. I queried this and was told this was because its a higher risk area. Is it really?

So, I toddled off to work and checked for myself to find the new location has a lower lever of reported autocrime and a lower incidence of reported collisions. Armed with the raw data I went back to my insurers and asked how it could be higher risk when there is less crime and less crashes? Suddenly my previous lower payments were reinstated.

The only difference is a more affluent postcode with a higher average household income. Proof that risk does not come into it at all, and that ones ability to shell out more cash is the prime factor.
