Our 12 plate 107 sportium, after 95000 miles, the last year burning oil to the tune of about 1 litre every 1000 miles has went bang. Started clattering from bottom end, down on power, went bang and that’s it gubbed. So I need an engine. Non of the scrapyards around here have one. Just wondering if anyone here has one before I resort to evil bay.

I would expect the head on our one would be ok, it sounds like the big ends gone so may well be able to make one good engine out of the two. I have sent you a pm with my postcode, if you could get a price for me to courier it to me that would be most helpful. Or if you know the dimensions and weight I would get a quote. One of the best couriers I have found is Paisley Freight. I have used them a lot for wheels and tyres, they are one of the few who do not charge extra for my location.

A 15000 moleengine has been sourced and delivered here for £240 and a Borg and beck clutch for&55 and engine swap taking place tomorrow. Starting at 9 am and hoping the car is running by tea time.

The engine is now fitted, but not started yet. The clutch amazingly was perfect after 95000 miles, could have used it again, but a new one is fitted. The driveshaft still have to be put in, the radiator to put in oil and coolant and it should be good to go. Nothing to cause any problems so far.

The knackered engine is well and truly dead. Sized big end bearing on the cylinder nearest the gearbox, which then smashed, breaking the conrod which then made a bid for freedom through the side of the block. The cylinder head may be salvageable, but the car has been tappity for a while so I would think it would need a bit of work really so I expect the whole engine will be destined for the skip.

It should be finished and running tomorrow, we have used the loom and ecu that came with the engine, I don't k ow it it's coded to the car or not, so presumably if it doesn't start then swap the loom and ecu for the original one and it should be good. We shall see what tomorrow brings.

That's the first one I've heard with big end failure

Must have not been serviced properly or ran without oil

It had been burning oil for a few thousand miles, and as my son has been sole driver for a while it is possible it has been ran low on oil. It has had its oil changed at every 8000 miles or so and had air and oil filters every time. Plugs at 40k and 80k, didn't need discs and pads until 50k then again at 90k. It has been driven hard most of its life, but most of its mileage a 42 mile commute 5 or 6 days a week with my son, and me using it for delivering hot food, which was stop start urban use 3 nights a week. Its not finished yet, been a lack of time for various reasons to get it done. It will be a cracking car once again when finished with a low mileage engine, new clutch, recent discs and pads ant two new tyres the day before the engine went. Its still on the original exhaust, still good, although the hanger has corroded off and its held up with a bit of wire. Its already passed one mot like that and another mot due in 6 weeks! Should be fine lol
